About health and self-care funds

An important element of self-care is to ensure the health and well-being of ourselves and our loved ones, in which health and self-care funds help fund members.

Health fund members can fund their health expenses – private health services and health products – either through their individual contributions or through employer contributions.

Fund members are entitled to a 20% annual tax refund of up to 150 000 HUF during their annual personal income tax declaration, and National Tax and Customs Authority (NAV) transfers this tax discount to their individual voluntary fund account selected by the members.

GOOD TO KNOW

How does it work?

The member of the health funds establishes a membership in the health fund, after which the fund member can set money aside for unexpected life situations (e.g. unemployment) in advance, or even cover other expenses.

With the help of individual contributions or the employer’s contribution, the fund member can finance various services and products. These can be either various health services, such as private health examinations (screening tests, specialist examinations) or even products such as medicines, medical aids.

Health fund members can even spend their savings on self-help family services such as childbearing costs, schooling expenses, higher education costs or even home loan repayments.

The cost of the services used and the products purchased can be paid in cash or by credit card, in which case the original invoice issued about the purchase must be submitted to the health fund in order to settle the cost. In case of payment with a health card, the fund member has no further task to do, the administration related to the settlement is handled directly by the Fund and the given service provider.
